All This And Then Some

If we all agree that hedonism is about the pursuit of pleasure in whatever form it may take then we may not be surprised to find that the weekend world does not solely consist of debauched nights out on the tiles. There are moments of pleasure to be found in all sorts of activities. Tiny particles of bliss so precious they must be treasured and shared. Those top of the world moments can come at the most unexpected times. Though more than likely in basements or on cliff tops. This morning I was going to call this entry all this and then nothing. Maybe because it was monday. Maybe because it was morning. Maybe because I was still half immersed in the nights dreams of humiliation and anxiety. But now with a few solitary late night delights – namely – something new on Clown And Sunset; a thick slice of Cooperative Somerset; a glass of English Rose – it doesn’t feel appropriate anymore. So here – the delights of the latest Disappearing Dining Club and a drizzly Seaford Head. Beauty rare and wondrous to behold. The fleeting joy of impermanence. The magic of moments.

THAT FUZZY FEELING: I FEEL STUDIO – MORGENGRUSS III The mysterious artistes behind the mega Balearic International Feel record label have been back in the studio making some future classics. The latest fruits of their endeavours is Morgengruss III, a psychadelic guitar swirler that is just irresistible. STRINGS, WOOD AND A BOX OF AIR : GIL SCOTT HERON For your further research into the great and recently departed Gil Scott Heron, may I recommend these two albums: Gil Scott Heron – Pieces Of A Man (1971) Gil Scott Heron & Jamie XX – We’re New Here (2011) TORN SAIL – BIRDS Lots of feeback on this track, new on Clarement 56 Records. CocoDaSilva Say Something

5th June 2011 Comments Off on CocoDaSilva Say Something

Long time collaborators Rui DaSilva and Chris Coco have a new ep coming out on Rui’s Kismet label now. The Ep features three new tracks – the deep vocal house tune Don’t Say Nothing, it’s companion instrumental Say Something and the darker after hours Make It. It’s been a while since club legend Rui DaSilva and chill out supremo Chris Coco got together to make a record.  They made several singles for Rui’s label Kismet Records, the most successful being Saudade, still used today by many DJs as a late night super deep secret weapon. Now, Coco has travelled to Rui’s current studio base in Ibiza to collaborate on new pieces which reflect their mutual love of deep, experimental electronic music. There are three tracks to choose from here. Two companion pieces, Don’t Say Nothing and Say Something, a song and an instrumental are on the A side. Don’t Say Nothing is about the total breakdown of a relationship, the point where it is impossible for the two people involved to communicate in any way. Say something is, perhaps appropriately, an instrumental, no words but a more optimistic feel. The song titles owe a debt to a poster by graphic artist Anthony Burrill. On the flip, Make It has a more after hours feel, the lyrics a fractured poem about the futility of modern existence itself. Buy it on Beatport.
