Melodicablog 29.08.11
More stuff about the music and stories on this weekâs Melodica. All the shows are archived on the Chris Coco page at Mixcloud. Melodica chart on Juno Download: here. THAT FUZZY FEELING: CFCF – COME TRUE – UNO This track from experimental chillout act CFCF, aka producer Michael Silver, is described by the label as a late night affair. It’s simple with a cool groove but there’s an indefinable special feeling about it that makes it the tune of the week. PARADA 88 -YOU’RE GONNA MISS ME – INTERNATIONAL FEEL The is are re-imagining, a re-version of the 80s house classic You’re Gonna Miss Me When I’m Gone by Turntable Orchestra. It works well in an old school / new school house set, giving some extra push and a little party edge to the proceedings. STELLA POLARIS – SEVEN SEAS Seven Seas is the new compilation from the people behind the excellent Stella Polaris Festival that happens every August in various parks in cities around Denmark. It includes fine work from Melodica favourites Lulu Rouge, as well as a Chris Coco track, something from Moby and a rather incongruous mix of a Robbie Williams tune. Overall though, a really good selection of downtempo electronic material that reflects the feel of the festival perfectly. AGNES PRESENTS CAVALIER Swiss techno producer and DJ has made a really cool deep house and atmospheric album for Drumpoet Community Records. It’s a mix of spacy house and ambient or just plain strange interludes that works well as a full album listen but also contains tunes that would fit well in a deep house set. ALLO LOVE Hello Old Friend by The Greg Foat Group Allo Love is a collection of tunes that have been released as singles on the rather good Wah Wah 45s label. There’s dubby soul, souly jazz and jazz dub, plenty of girly vocals and a a sprinkling of really good songs on the selection. My favourite is a piece of proper modern electronic jazz by The Greg Foat Group. Nice.
Melodica 29.08.11
Chris Coco’s weekly radio broadcast. An eclectic selection of brilliant new music starting with house and moving on to electronica, downtempo, acoustic and all sorts of other styles loosely connected to dance and electronic music. Let tastemaker Chris Coco guide you through his selection of the week’s best new music. This week I’m back in the studio after a couple of shows out on the road. So there’s plenty of great new music to pack into the show. The first half is sort of deep house and disco; the second half acoustic and experimental electronica, you know the drill. Searching For Inspiration
What better place to search for inspiration than Edinburgh in August. The intense creative energy of the Festival and Fringe; the breezy rush of summer; the sun and shops; the public art and private details. It’s a joy.
