Shooting Blanks

Or Still Life Sometimes the city must be left behind. Today we are searching for solace in shapes and shadows on the South Coast. There’s wonder in the walls. The blanker the better. The less there is to shoot the less there is to say, the less there is to say, the less there is to think, the less there is to think the more space there is for silence. Time stretches out with the shadows. The day becomes years becomes a lifetime. This is living.

If you want to get ahead, get a hat

This beauty just arrived from Melodica listener and champion knitter Spilly Jane. A fully functioning Chelsea hat, complete with rampant lion. All I have to do now is get Torres to wear it for his next game. Goals will inevitably follow.

More stuff about the music and stories on this week’s Melodica. All the shows are archived on the Chris Coco page at Mixcloud. There’s a new Melodica chart on Juno Download: here. Follow Chris Coco on MixcloudTHAT FUZZY FEELING: HARD TON – IN THIS MOMENT Dimitri From Paris follows his fin ChiTown style party house remix with a mix in a similar classic 80s house style of the new one from Hard Ton on new label Toytronics. It’s old fashioned in style but with all the necessary bite and low bass, making it an instant hit in the Melodica camp. BLOOD PRESSURE Blood Pressure – Bass Injections That Raise The Bar is a fine new compilation on Med School Music. It features an excellent new space track from the master of the understated, filmic groove, Synkro. NEW BURIAL There’s so much excitement surrounding the new Burial single, Kindred. It is, as one would expect, long, dirty, dark and perfect for play in an undertrack car park round London Bridge at about 4am on a crisp winter morning. So nothing new in Burial terms, but that sound, it’s so specific, so atmospheric, it makes you want to give up producing, or tear it apart and work out how he does it. Now, where are my scissors? You can get the single now on the Hyperdub website.
