The result of this story is a fine debut single of Afro beat style Balearica with great remixes from Todd Terje, Rune Lindbaek and Tim ‘Love’ Lee. It’s coming on two slabs of high quality vinyl in May. RECORD STORE DAY Check the Record Store Day blog for more. APOLLO RENAISSANCE The re-launched Apollo Records, originally the ambient offshoot of electronic pioneers R&S, continues to impress with this EP from Jack Dixon.

This episode we’re exploring some kind of soul music. Now, that might be Motown or it might be something inside the machine; it might be a guitar through an amp with reverb; it might be a digital bleep or a sonic squeak. So that’s Alabama Shakes, Ame, Moodymann, Odyssey, Paul Weller and much more All the shows are archived on the Chris Coco page at Mixcloud. There’s a new Melodica chart on Juno Download: here. He was born in New Jersey and raised there and in Sicily. This is his debut release for his own label and it’s rather good in an indie, electronic, soulful kind of way. There’s a good Larry Heard remix too which you will hear on next week’s show. MONSTER RALLY I really like Monster Rally. They take bits of 60s Tropicalia and quirky pop, chop it up and make, short, loopy, mad tracks that are really fun and exciting. They have a new album coming out on various wild aquatic coloured vinyl variations called Beyond The Sea. The lead track from the album is Jaguar and you can download it here. SOME KIND OF SOUL Motown’s Mowest Story 1971-73 is a rather good compilation LP that I have just discovered featuring some very laidback sunshine soul. MOODYMANN Moodymann, aka Detroit native Kenny Dixon, has a new EP of warped motor city soul out called Picture This. It’s on Scion music and while it is most definitely more of the same it is a welcome return for his unique sound.
