One Love

or Bass for your face, Paddock Wood. The countryside is the strangest place. It’s flat and windy and full of cars. The people there have a problem with bass, which is a problem, when you are playing reggae at a festival with Mixmaster Morris. We have 12-5, daytime, maximum chillout vibes in a reggae style, with a few side tracks, hour on, hour off. It’s one of those afternoons that just flows, no pressure, just good company, sunshine and great music. At ten to five Babylon pulls the plug on the tent, apparently the bass is drowning out the sound of traffic on the A228, or perhaps the peace of man’s barbecue is being disturbed down there in Paddock Wood. Because it’s a reggae festival, I kind of wish I had played less reggae. Because I am me it bugs me that when someone else plays the same tune it sounds better than when I play it. But these are just the usual doubts. What with Morris and Saxon and Channel One, it turns out to be an inspiring day out in the sunshine. One Love. Now all sing… Jamaica have one and two and three, Jamaica have one and two and three…

Melodica 13 August 2012

Chris Coco’s weekly radio broadcast. An eclectic selection of brilliant new music starting with house and moving on to electronica, downtempo, acoustic and all sorts of other styles loosely connected to dance and electronic music. Let tastemaker Chris Coco guide you through his selection of the week’s best new music. This episode comes live from the Stop Making Sense festival in Croatia. Chris soundtracks an afternoon of sunbathing from the wooden shack that doubles as a DJ booth on the beach at the festival. The sound of cicadas is almost as loud as the music in the booth and the view is spectacular – sun bathers, just beyond the Function One speaker stack to the left, a lagoon and what looks like a wooden pirate ship straight ahead. It’s extremely hot and the music reflects the mood. [setlist] 1 Now Now Now – Problem – Balearic Gabba 2 Deekie – Rush (Joel Hood Remix) – Melodica Recordings 3 Idjut Boys – Love Hunter – Smalltown Supersound 4 Ben Sidran – About Love – Digital File 5 Noir & Haze – Around (Acoustic Version) – Cool D:Vision 6 Pepe Bradock – Deep Burnt – Vulture 7 Sonarpilot – June Dub (Brendon Moeller Dub 1) – Sonar Pilot Audio 8 Greg Paulus – Yellow Sky – K7 9 The Paradise – In Love With You – Vulture 10 Wings – Love Is Strange – EMI 11 Seu Jorge & Almaz – The Model – Now Again Records
