THAT FUZZY FEELING: DAPHNI AKA CARIBOU – AHORA
Dan Snaith aka Caribou aka Daphni doesn’t sleep. Here he is again with, as the label describe it – a slinky, trippy, eastern tinged piece, with a stunning, tweaked out synth riff that blows apart the uneasy equilibrium.
It should’t work but it just feels right.
Fully Bearded : 15 Years of Tummy Touch in Dub is a new album of dubs of some of the best music released on the label over, yes you’ve guessed it, the last 15 years. The dubs have all been done by label head Tim ‘Love’ Lee, and there he is in all his bearded glory on the cover. Artists include Tom Vek, Bryan Ferry and New Young Pony Club.
Mazzy Star, seminal Californian woozy downtempo merchants have got back together after a 15 year break. The duo, Hope Sandoval and David Roback have just released a single, Common Burn, and it looks like there are plans for a new album next year.
Four Walls / Paradise Circus is the first fruits to emerge from Burial’s collaboration with Massive Attack. The tunes appear on a limited 12″ with glittery artword from Robert Del Naja aka 3D. This week Paradise Circus, which features Hope Sandoval on vocals, finishes the show.
It’s all gone a bit 80s, in a good way, on Originals, DJ Phil Mison’s latest compilation for Claremont 56. Mison, who started his DJing career at Cafe Del Mar, has sourced an array of Balearic gems including the Del Mar classic Makin’ A Living by African Dream that is featured on the show.
