Melodicablog 16.05.11

More stuff about the music and stories on this week’s Melodica – this week it’s all about bears (sort of).

In tune with the Melodica aesthetic, covering a broad range of exciting, inspiring, beautiful new music from electronica to house to experimental.

THAT FUZZY FEELING: YAMBEE – NATURAL OFF

This week’s tune of the week is a collaboration between two fine purveyors of modern disco grooves – Yam Who and Ashley Beedle. So now the name makes sense, clever huh? (But remember not to confuse it with Tom Yam Bee Soup, pictured here).

The single is a forthcoming release on Ashley’s Out Hear Audio. The flip is one of those long Kraut Rock psychedelic workouts.

THE BEST DRESSED CHICKEN IN TOWN

The Best Dressed Chicken In Town is a classic slice of old school 70s reggae from Dr Alimantado. The album was originally released in 1978. He has pressed up some fresh vinyl on his own Keyman Records label so we can all enjoy it in it’s crackly glory. It features Horace Andy, Lee Perry and King Tubby and was recorded at legendary Jamaican studios including Black Ark and Channel One.

MAXMILLION DUNBAR

It’s the second week playing something from Maxmillion Dunbar’s excellent EP, Max Trax For World Peace on the Future Times label.

6TH BOROUGH PROJECT

Watch out for the forthcoming album from 6th Borough Project, aka Craig Smith and Graham from The Revenge. It’s called One Night In The Borough and if the first sampler tracks are anything to go by it’s going to be a fine collection of sampled-up Scottish SloMoDisco.
