THAT FUZZY FEELING: BILLIE HOLIDAY VS SEBASTIAN TELLIER – LA RITOURNELLE (LULU ROUGE JASS EDIT)

A special tune of the week for the second anniversary of Melodica. This is a re-version of an all time classic made by Lulu Rouge for the Copenhagen Jazz Festival.

WASHED OUT

The new Washed Out EP, Within And Without, is a real gem. It continues the woozy, slightly retro, atmospheric feel of his debut EP, Life Of Leisure, creating a perfect soundtrack for lazy summer evenings. Washed Out is one man band Earnest Greene from Atlanta, Georgia, USA. It’s co-produced by Ben Allen who has produced for Animal Collective, Gnarles Barkley and Deerhunter. As well as the download and CD the album is available in various shades of coloured vinyl.

DJ KICKS

The latest in the excellent DJ Kicks mix series from K7 records comes from the ever reliable deep house heads Motor City Drum Ensemble. But it’s not all house music in the mix, far from it, the guys have gone super eclectic, starting their set with a slice of Sun Ra’s wonky jazz and taking it from there. Well worth investigating then.

DEADBEAT

Drawn and Quartered by Deadbeat is the first release on a new label from Germany called BLKRTZ, presumably pronounced Black Ratz. It’s that deep, spacy form of techno that works as well on a sunny beach as in a dark after hours spot. Hit track for Melodica is Second Quarter. Deadbeat is producer Scott Monteith who has released more dub techno on the Scape and Wagon Repair imprints.
