Melodicablog 22.11.10

More stuff about the music and stories on this week’s Melodica
This is the start of something new. A weekly blog loosely based around the Melodica radio show with more information, pictures, links and comment.

That Fuzzy Feeling: Tadd Mullinix & Daniel Mateo – The Good Star
A Wobbly, slinky groove that’s all about the bassline from the album Modeselektor proudly presents Modeselection Vol 1 on Modeselektor’s own Monkeytown Records.

A Tale Of Two Cities
Two compilations from two cities that evoke a sense of place and reflect, musically, how it feels to be in that city.

Bristol is represented by Worth The Weight – Bristol Dubstep Classics on Smith & Mighty’s Punch Drunk label. The pictures were taken at Dubloaded a little club night in Stokes Croft, Bristol. The music is described perfectly by Punch:
“I knew straight away that this was a sound that would fit perfectly in Bristol. There is a lot of tension in the music that carries a satisfactory darkness but it’s also lazy music. You don’t have to dance hard to move with it. It was born with a reefer in it’s gob.”

Berlin is represented by Fünf, a collection of artists’ takes on sound recordings from Berlin club Berghain. The concept is described in the sleeve notes:
“The entire building of Berghain and Panorama Bar contains a unique sonic world independent of the music played when the clubs are open to the public. These sounds were recorded and edited into a library which was given to all the artists featured, to make music with. There were no limitations placed on how each artist should work with the sounds.”

Scuba = SCB
Dubstep artist Scuba has started making techno. It must be something to do with living in Berlin. His alter ego and label are both called SCB. Minimalism at work in the music and the artwork.

Voices Of Black
Voices Of Black is the artist name of Jules and Baba from Providence, Long Island. They have made an album called Plastic Dolls, dedicated to models and the model lifestyle, inspired by Ana Beatriz Barros. After seeing her on a cable channel they decided to make an album of songs that sound like what she looks like. The album is coming in January 2011 on Wolf + Lamb Records.
