Melodicablog 28.02.11

More stuff about the music and stories on this week’s Melodica – this week it’s all about bears (sort of).

In tune with the Melodica aesthetic, covering a broad range of exciting, inspiring, beautiful new music from electronica to house to experimental.

THAT FUZZY FEELING: RADIOHEAD – GIVING UP THE GHOST

I can’t quite decide which is my favourite on the new Radiohead album, King Of Limbs. Is it Give Up The Ghost or Lotus Flower. It all depends on the mood really, so both appear on this week’s show. The album is only eight tracks long and actually all the better for that. It’s always quite intense listening to R’head and they deserve proper listening so a short, wonderful experience actually works better than the usual situation in CD and download album land where you get bored or just emotionally drained at about track 9 and just switch off.

BACK TO BACK BALEARICS

There have been plenty of cover versions of the Beach Boys’ classic of all classics God Only Knows. I have chosen an obscure acoustic version from Adem to feature alongside the original on this week’s show.

STRINGS, WOOD AND A BOX OF AIR

This week the acoustic slot is taken by Royksopp’s rather fine new single Forsaken Cowboy, a standout track from their instrumental album Senior. It’s quirky, soundtracky, wonderfully Balearic and it features the boys looking daft on the cover. What’s not to like.

BATHS – THE NOTHING

The Nothing is the new 7″ single from California dream pop act Baths. I tracksed this down after enjoying their remix of the new single from Gold Panda.

MANE TO MANE

Mane Mane’s new album Mane To Mane is a little dense and intense but definitely worth investigating. The cover gives you an idea of the abstract electro-soul contained within. Downlaod a remix of their tune Skin Fox here:
